Every business will have different rules regarding their customers and order processes. The Checkout Settings Menu gives you access to those settings that allow you to specify who you will allow to order and also some general handling options.
Each option listed below can be enabled or modified from the Checkout Settings Menu. These settings can directly influence your customers’ ability to proceed during checkout on your store.
- Allow guests to checkout: if this option is not enabled your customers will be required to create an account with your store in order to complete checkout successfully and place an order.
- Allow registered users: if this option is not enabled, your customers will not have the option to create an account. Without creating an account, your customers will not be able to view previous orders or track the status of current orders.
- Display customer IP address during checkout process: when this option is enabled the IP Address of the computer which your customer is using will display on the order confirmation page of checkout.
- Email address is optional during checkout process: when this option is enabled your customers must enter a "valid" email address during the first step of checkout or they will not be able to proceed further.
- Return real-time UPS residential rates: UPS offers both real-time residential and commercial rates. If you are primarily shipping to private homes, please select residential rates. If you are primarily shipping business-to-business, please disable residential rates.
- Billing address is same as shipping address: when this option is enabled your customers will not have the option to enter a ship to address. The billing address will be used as the ship to address for all orders.
- Charge tax based on billing or shipping address: you have the option to charge tax based upon the billing or shipping address. Since tax laws differ between states you should check with your State Tax laws through your local government offices and websites, or through official tax sites to check that you are charging properly. Tax may apply based on the state to which the package is shipped, or the state from which the order was placed.
- Checkout handling charge: enter a dollar amount value, if any, to be added onto the order total outside of shipping and tax charges.
If you have made any changes within the Checkout Settings Menu you will need to click the "Save" button before they will take effect. If you would prefer to exit without saving, click on the "Cancel & Return" button to return to the main Site Admin Menu screen.
